FH Cambodia in Trapeang Prasat 2 Area Program has trained and strengthened the capacity of model farmers and volunteers who serve the community through agricultural technical training. The capacity building of agricultural technical skills for them is aimed at becoming a promoter of agricultural techniques in the community through the training and encouragement of other farmers. They are also showing practical technical skills and best practices on their farms.
The implementation of an integrated farming system has really benefited farmers both environmentally and economically. On-farm practices include a variety of productions such as vegetable cultivation, animal husbandry, aquaculture, poultry, cattle farming, composting, and botanical pesticides. This practice reduces the cost of pesticides and fertilizers, increases incomes, provides adequate and safe food, and resilience to climate change.
Ms. Hun Vanni, 52 years old, a model farmer in Ou Takok village, Kantuot commune, Svay Leu district, said,
Through implementation with the FH Cambodia project, it has changed the lives of my family a lot. In the past, I have never done anything other than cooking peanuts and selling, and through this business, I earn a small income to support my family, but my life is still difficult from day to day. After joining the FH Food Security project, my daily life was changed and improved. My family could earned money from selling vegetables and raising chickens to support our family expenses and children’s education. In addition, FH Cambodia has given me the opportunity to build my capacity, knowledge, agricultural technical skills, practice on my farm and other communities. Before, I was very shy and did not dare to express my opinions and participate in various activities in the community. But now I also take some of my time sharing my experiences about implementing an integrated farming system by providing them consultation and guidance to farmer and ID poor, as a part of helping them to improve income, have enough food to eat, and have a better life to support their families. I am committed to continuing to share with my neighbors, as well as vulnerable families, and to support myself, even after the FH Cambodia ends its project in my community.
