Before Chhun Sokhom possessed a lack of educational foundation and a deficiency in self-assurance. She said,
Prior to joining FH Cambodia, I used to be shy and didn’t interact much with others. Studying made me anxious and I had a negative view of myself. Living in a remote area didn’t help with my communication either.
Through my involvement with FH Cambodia and the Hope Group Volunteer for Child Monitoring (HGV-CM) initiative, I have gained valuable skills and insights from FH staff and teachers in the children’s club.
This experience has been crucial for my personal growth, as it has allowed me to engage with others, identify my weaknesses, and realize my potential. I have learned about the importance of teaching skills, leadership, photography, child’s rights, gender issues, and how to effectively interact with children. These experiences have provided me with new perspectives, abilities, and a clear sense of direction.
I have transformed into someone who develops strong interpersonal with friends, family, and those around me, gaining greater confidence and motivation to learn, enhance my skills, and perform better academically, and achieving the 2nd Rank in Class certificated from my school. I have now completed my grade 12 and intend to work and pursue studies in Phnom Penh. In the future, I aspire to be both a doctor and a teacher. These two professions can enable me to assist my family and numerous others in my community.
