Mr. Chanrasmey, 36, is a teacher and model farmer in Tonle Sor village. He has become a source of inspiration in his community. In the past, his family of five faced great difficulties, as his teaching salary was not enough to cover daily needs, and farming and livestock raising often failed.
In 2022, his life began to change after joining FH Cambodia’s Food Security and Livelihood program (now called the Asset Creation program). Despite financial challenges and border conflict issues, he participated in training on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) and Market Value Chains. He began raising chickens and growing vegetables in his backyard and community pond areas.
Gradually, his efforts paid off—his family had enough food, and he earned an additional $150–$200 per month. This income enabled him to send his children back to school. Beyond improving his own livelihood, Mr. Chanrasmey shares his knowledge with other farmers, encouraging them to adopt better practices. His mindset and behavior have transformed, and his family now enjoys greater stability and hope for the future.
He shared that, “I lacked knowledge in agriculture, and I felt stressed and worried about my children’s future. FH didn’t just provide support—they taught us how to grow vegetables and raise animals. Now, I share what I’ve learned with my neighbors, and I’m happy to see our community grow together. Now, I am proud to be a model farmer whom my neighbors can rely on. Seeing my children healthy and happy motivates me to keep learning and sharing.”— Mr. Chanrasmey, a Model Farmer.
