The Effect of Drip Irrigation Systems on Vegetable Farming
Mr. Tob Chhouy mentioned, “I serve as a Key Lead Farmer, and my family consists of 5 members. We reside in Thmei village, located in the Svay Leu commune and district of Siem Reap province. I have established a comprehensive farming system on my land. On my farm, I cultivate chickens, ducks, and produce vegetables. In the past, I engaged in vegetable farming using traditional agricultural methods, which required a significant amount of time and a great deal of water for irrigation.”
He added, “As a farmer chosen by FH Cambodia in Svay Leu 1 Area Program, I underwent training in Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), which covered the installation of a drip irrigation system. Following training, I was chosen to assist with the drip irrigation system to implement on my vegetable farm. Once I set it up on my farm, I reduced my time spent watering my vegetables, conserving both water and energy. This irrigation technique has additionally improved my crop yield, potentially increasing my family’s daily earnings. By improving irrigation techniques, I can earn $150 to $200 per month. I am now cultivating various types of vegetables on my farm, including choy sum, cucumbers, chilies, long beans, eggplants, and papaya.”
