Mrs. Som Thon, a 57-year-old resident of Trapeang Prasat district in Oddar Meanchey province, serves as a member of the Sanitation Committeeβ said, Prior to being elected to this role, I lacked the confidence to actively engage with and educate my community. However, my involvement in the FH Cambodia project has transformed me. Through training sessions on the responsibilities of the Sanitation Committee, leadership development, and lessons on personal hygiene, I have gained knowledge on constructing hand basins, proper handwashing techniques, appropriate waste disposal, and ensuring access to safe water. As a result, I now possess the confidence, determination, and bravery to advocate for and guide my community in various aspects, including environmental cleanliness, hand basin construction, hand hygiene, toilet usage, and the importance of safe water. My understanding of hygiene practices has become more comprehensive than ever before. Furthermore, I am now unafraid to address community issues and voice my opinions during meetings. I am committed to doing everything in my power to foster the continuous growth of my community, promoting a clean environment, tidy streets, access to toilets for all households, and an overall prosperous and hygienic way of life.
