At 32, Mrs. Lan Sophea, Village Chief of Trapeang Slaeng Village in Oddar Meanchey Province, stands as a powerful example of determination and service. A devoted wife and mother of two, she balances leadership with her family’s support and encouragement.
Her journey began through volunteer work, where her commitment earned the trust of her community. During the Sangkat selection process, her abilities were recognized, and she was elected and appointed as Village Chief. Some doubted her because she was young and a woman, but her family pushed her forward:
“Do not give up. Keep fighting. You can do it!”
Mrs. Sophea proved that leadership is built on dedication, not gender or age. She listened to her community, embraced feedback, and grew through challenges.
“I accept feedback/comments, learn from challenges, and improve myself to be a good woman leader.”
When FH began working in her village, she became actively involved—supporting volunteer selection, identifying Registered Children, and joining trainings on safe migration, child rights, and hygiene. She felt encouraged by FH’s inclusive approach, especially toward women. Today, Sophea inspires girls and women to believe in themselves and to lead with confidence.
Her message for International Women’s Day:
“Women are capable of so much. Stay focused, stay resilient, and don’t let anyone’s doubts stop you.”
Mrs. Lan Sophea shows that when women are supported and given opportunities, they become strong pillars of peace, security, and progress for their families and communities—lighting the way for future women leaders.
