FH’s implementation of the FSL strategy aims to improve the sustainable income sources of households by establishing Savings Groups. These groups act as catalysts to enhance and diversify the income security of vulnerable households. FH assists in forming and managing Savings Groups, enabling them to effectively manage financial risks such as bad debt and optimize savings for productive investments. Furthermore, Savings Group members have undergone training in business development and financial management, equipping them with essential soft skills, functional literacy, numeracy, and financial literacy required to initiate their small-scale businesses with the support of loans from the Saving Group. Training will be provided on the principles, operations, and governance of Savings Groups. Once these groups become self-sufficient, FH’s supervision will decrease, and capable volunteers from successful Savings Groups will assume responsibility. These volunteers will play a crucial role in promoting and fostering ownership within the groups.
Since I embarked on this endeavor, my family and I have experienced a newfound sense of courage and confidence. Moreover, I have become more proficient in managing my time efficiently to prioritize my children’s education and tend to my household responsibilities. Additionally, I have gained knowledge in agriculture and animal husbandry, which has brought me immense happiness and strengthened my relationships. Furthermore, I have developed the ability to make wise deposits and savings with the remaining income which has offered me an additional source of capital to expand my small chicken-raising business. As a result, the overall well-being of my family has significantly improved. I am now able to successfully market my agricultural and animal products, providing me with a stable income source. My children now have access to more nourishing meals and can attend school regularly. I even have another plan to save more money specifically for my daughters’ education and to cover other expenses within my family. As quoted by Mr. Ngaet Thuok, a Saving Member
